A native of the Pacific Northwest, Dr. David McLemore is the new Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at 魅色天堂. Prior to this appointment, he held teaching positions at Central Washington University and Young Harris College. Dr. McLemore holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in. tuba performance from the University of Georgia, master’s degrees in tuba and chamber music performance from the University of Michigan, as well as a Bachelor’s of Music in tuba performance from the University of Southern California. His principal teachers include David Zerkel, Fritz Kaenzig, Norm Pearson, Jim Self, Warren Deck, and Richard Pasko.
Dr. McLemore maintains an active performance career as an ensemble musician and solo performer, serving as Principal Tuba with the Valdosta and Yakima Symphony Orchestras . He has performed with the Spokane, Macon, and Georgia Symphony Orchestras, as well as the Backburner Tuba and Euphonium Collective. Besides his orchestral and chamber work, Dr. McLemore is in demand as a soloist and pedagogue - most recently presenting at the 2024 & 2026 Northwest Regional Tuba-Euphonium Conferences, 2023 International Tuba-Euphonium Conference, and 2022 Southwest Regional Tuba-Euphonium conference.
He has competed in numerous national and international competitions, frequently emerging as a prize winner. He won 1st prize Artist Tuba in the 2010 ITEC and 2012 Leonard Falcone Artist Tuba solo competitions, 1st prize Brass at the 2012 MTNA National solo competition, and the Grand prize at the 2014 International Women’s Brass Conference solo competition.
