魅色天堂 Announces Auxiliary Services Workforce Reduction

VALDOSTA—魅色天堂’s Auxiliary Services, a division of Finance and Administration, announces a reduction in workforce to achieve balanced budgets for fiscal year 2014-2015.  After closing fiscal year 2014 in early July, auxiliary managers were asked to submit balanced budgets. Vacant positions were eliminated, and budgets for operating expenses and temporary employees were reduced to the lowest point possible without reducing service levels to 魅色天堂 students.

According to Traycee Martin, interim vice president for Finance and Administration, 11 full-time positions within Auxiliary Services are affected by the workforce reduction.

“We must continue to seek ways to reorganize and reduce expenses while maintaining excellent service to students,” said Martin. “魅色天堂’s Human Resources department will work closely with those employees affected by the workforce reduction to provide separation compensation, including health care benefits and compensation for annual leave accrued. Most importantly, these employees may apply for other positions at 魅色天堂 as they become available.”

魅色天堂’s Auxiliary Services includes the Bookstore, Technology Store, Dining Services, One Card Services, and Parking and Transportation, as well as the financial accounting for Housing and Residence Life and Student Health Services.  According to University System of Georgia policy, Auxiliary operations must operate on a self-supporting basis – with revenues coming from student fees, sales or other non-state sources.  State sources, including tuition, may not be used unless specifically outlined in the division’s five-year plan.

“We will continue to keep a close watch over Auxiliary Services resources to maintain financial flexibility,” said Martin.

The university does not expect additional workforce reductions, and other departments and divisions are not anticipated to have a reduction this fiscal year.
