Frequent Asked Questions

An Academic Success Coach is a partner in your academic journey who helps you develop strategies to achieve your goals and make the most of your college experience. Through one-on-one conversations, coaches can help you strengthen skills such as time management, study habits, organization, goal setting, and academic planning. Academic Success Coaching is designed to help you identify what’s working, navigate challenges, and build strategies that support your continued success.

Academic Advisors and Academic Success Coaches both support your success, but they focus on different parts of your academic journey.

An Academic Advisor helps you navigate your degree requirements, select courses, understand academic policies, and stay on track toward graduation.

An Academic Success Coach focuses on the strategies and habits that help you succeed in those courses. Your coach can help you strengthen time management, organization, study strategies, goal setting, motivation, and other skills that support your academic progress.

Think of it this way: your Academic Advisor helps you plan your path to graduation, while your Academic Success Coach helps you develop the strategies to succeed along the way.

Meeting with an Academic Success Coach gives you dedicated time to focus on your goals and develop strategies to help you succeed. Whether you want to improve your study habits, better manage your time, get organized, navigate an academic challenge, or simply take your performance to the next level, a coach can help.

You don’t have to be struggling to benefit from coaching. Academic Success Coaching is a proactive resource for any student who wants to strengthen their skills, stay on track, and make the most of their college experience.

Coaching appointments are 30 minutes in length.

Your Academic Success Coaching appointment is a one-on-one conversation focused on you and your goals. You and your coach will talk about how your semester is going, identify what’s working well, explore any challenges you may be experiencing, and develop strategies to help you move forward.

During your appointment, you may:
  • Discuss your academic goals and progress
  • Explore your study habits, time management, and organization
  • Develop strategies for navigating academic challenges
  • Create an action plan with clear next steps
  • Get connected to tutoring services or other campus resources
Academic Success Coaching is a collaborative process. Your coach is there to help you develop the strategies, skills, and confidence to take ownership of your academic success.

An Early Alert is a notification from your instructor that helps us recognize how you’re doing in your courses. Alerts may celebrate students who are doing well or identify students who could benefit from additional resources and support. These notifications give you an opportunity to connect with an Academic Success Coach, access helpful resources, and make adjustments early in the semester.

If you receive an Early Alert, a coach may reach out to help you identify next steps and develop strategies to support your academic success. An Early Alert is about connecting you with the right support at the right time so you can stay on track and finish the semester strong.

RISE: Academic Recovery Seminar course is a structured academic support program designed to help students strengthen their academic strategies, regain momentum, and make progress toward their goals. Students who are approved through the Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) appeal process or readmitted following an academic suspension are placed in a RISE seminar as part of their academic recovery journey.

Through academic success seminars, one-on-one meetings with an Academic Success Coach, and guided activities, students reflect on their academic experiences, identify barriers to success, and develop a personalized plan for moving forward.

RISE focuses on areas such as goal setting, time management, study strategies, motivation, utilizing campus resources, and academic planning.

The goal of RISE extends beyond improving academic performance for one semester. It helps students develop the skills, strategies, and connections needed to regain academic momentum, make continued progress, and move toward graduation.
